What can be a star I see tonight that is large and changing colors?

Has anybody seen something like this? A star that changes colors like red, silver, gold etc? And why is it changing colors? It out this evening. By the way I am in ArizonaWhat can be a star I see tonight that is large and changing colors?Stars twinkle and sparkle when the atmosphere is turbulent or has density differences. A bright star can twinkle all colours such as red, green, blue, white, yellow, etc. as the starlight is refracted by the atmosphere (different colour wavelengths refract differently).

Any star will twinkle (its technically called "scintillation"), but brighter stars tend to appear to twinkle more to our eyes.

So without knowing which direction, how high above the horizon, and what time you are viewing this, there is no way we can tell you which star it is.

You can use Astronomy.com's feature "Your Sky Tonight" to find it, or stellarium.org.What can be a star I see tonight that is large and changing colors?I agree, for the past few nights I've seen a star that was twinkling red and a bluish green. I've been trying to figure it out and it's just to the lower left of Orians right foot. I looked it up and found it it's the star Sirius. It took me a bit to figure it out but now I'm 99% sure it is.

What can be a star I see tonight that is large and changing colors? This is known as scintillation or twinkling, and is caused by the star's light being deflected by the Earth's atmosphere. It's impossible to say which star this might be without knowing your exact location and time, and the direction and altitude of the star.

Is there a plant that looks like star jasmine, but does not bloom?

I have a large plant in my back yard that spreads over much of the ground. It looks just like my mom's star jasmine (Trachelospermum jasminoides for you gardners and botanists), but I have yet to see it bloom. Like star jasmine, it also oozes a milky, somewhat sticky fluid when I pick a piece off of the plant. Could this be some other kind of plant that will never produce those sweet-smelling, white flowers? Is there a plant that looks like star jasmine, but does not bloom?Could it bee in too much shade? That will often reduce the flowering, but still gives lovely foliage. OR maybe it is what is commonly called "Asian Star Jasmine" but sorry, the Bot name escapes me but family is same. It flowers less heavily, and again shade could be retarding blooms. Try a couple doses of a Flower food, or good ole Miracle-Gro.Is there a plant that looks like star jasmine, but does not bloom? At first I thought Wax Leaf Privet. But you said that in grows on the ground. May be it is Star Jasmine but it isn't getting enough sunlight to blossom. Or maybe you just need to fertilize with some flowering plant specific fertilizer. Is there a plant that looks like star jasmine, but does not bloom?sounds like some kind of ground cover, sorry but star jasmine are vines, i dont know what you have.

Ok, so in the new Star Trek film we are lead to believe that Spock from the future ended up back in time. How old was he in the film?!?!?! Seriously! To answer your question, which I'm not really quite sure what you meant, the Spock from the future traveled back from the year 2387. He would have been 155 years old. However, he wasn't seen again until 25 years later, in which he would have been 170.

In the alternate timeline caused by Nero, he was 26.

This is, however, not confirmed. What year did spock from the new Star Trek film come from?I haven't seen the new movie yet, so I can't answer that question. What formula can I use to find the mass of a star given the mass of a planet and its period and orbital radius?

    Hi All,

What formula can I use to find the mass of a star given the mass of a planet and its period and orbital radius?

    Thanks in advance!

What formula can I use to find the mass of a star given the mass of a planet and its period and orbital radius?Newton's form of Kepler's Third Law. Here's the meter-kilogram-second version.

    M = 4 pi^2 a^3 / (G P^2) - N

    Where

M = the mass of the star in kilograms

N = the mass of the planet in kilograms

    pi = 3.14159265358979

a = the average separation of the star and the planet, in meters

P = the period of the orbit in seconds

    G = 6.67428E-11 m^3 kg^-1 sec^-2

    M = (5.915E+11 kg sec^2 m^-3) a^3 / P^2 - NWhat formula can I use to find the mass of a star given the mass of a planet and its period and orbital radius?( m1 + m2 ) P2 = ( d1 + d2 ) 3 = R3

But couldn't you simply use bigger paper? Or take the measurements of a mini origami star and multiply them by like 2 for a star two times bigger or by 10 for a star 10 times bigger - etc. Good Luck! How do you make a bigger version of a mini origami star?I think juicy is correct, just use bigger paper in the same proportions. If your original paper is 2 by 3, use bigger paper 4 by 6.

I was just wondering if there were any good websites to watch all the Star Wars online.

Thank you all!Where can I watch Star Wars online? And what is the best order to watch them in?NetFlix ... all those "watch for free" sites are nothing more than cesspools of viruses, worms, and all manner of spy/mal ware.

If we install Energy Star windows, will this prevent us from having to install window plastic on our windows?

It gets expensive and is so wasteful to put up plastic and then throw it in the garbage afterwards in the spring. Would Energy Star windows keep the cold air out?If we install Energy Star windows, will this prevent us from having to install window plastic on our windows? The most likely answer is yes. However, the primary source benefit of putting plastic over the windows is the prevention of drafts and leaks.

When you have new windows installed, be sure that they are installed and caulked correctly. The first thing that you want to check on the windows is their energy rating. Bear in mind the environment in which you are located. A highly efficient window (one that keeps a lot of cold/heat out) is great in a cold/hot environment. However, does your local environment dictate the increased cost.

Also, another alternative is the use of Plexiglas/magnetic storm windows such as those sold by Sears or ECP. They typically cover the entire opening so that should you have air leaks, they can block them much like the magnetic seal on your refrigerator blocks the loss of cold air from it.If we install Energy Star windows, will this prevent us from having to install window plastic on our windows?
YesIf we install Energy Star windows, will this prevent us from having to install window plastic on our windows?Yes and it should add value to your house. Be careful, I spent an ungodly sum of money on MARVIN WINDOWS and they are worse then the ones I had replaced. I now have condensation on them during the winter, mold growing on the inside during the summer. They are really bad windows. If we install Energy Star windows, will this prevent us from having to install window plastic on our windows?
Yes. I don't miss that plastic job at all. And you can see through the windows better too. Go for it.If we install Energy Star windows, will this prevent us from having to install window plastic on our windows? My entire house has 5 year old windows. I still put plastic up, several layers, inside and out, and find that it substantially lowered my gas bill from the year before when I didn't cover the new windows. I live on lake Erie and it really freezes here. If you want to save money, I'd still do it. Extra coverage!

You could switch to clear vinyl, which looks like the kind that goes on furniture. It is 5 mil. and clear. I save mine, fold it up and reuse it. Never throw away!

Why is Mark Grace and others upset over All-Stars like Jeter who did not appear for the All Star Game?

The All-Star Game is a joke. Jeter relaxed with family and friends and I support that. Those "fans" in Arizona were low class for what they did to Prince Fielder and his family. Jeter and those who did not appear did the right thing. Health comes first. Mariano, Jeter, A-Rod are going to the Hall of Fame. He actually was healthy at the time and was just "Physically and Mentally exhausted" He should have at least still showed up for the fans and would have had only 2 at bats then he would have been done. A-Rod I understand because he just had surgery.

    Jose Reyes showed up.

    Shane Victorino showed up.

Aaron Crow was sick and showed up.

I didn't know Reyes was gonna go and he went.

Willie Mays said the past week; "I was chosen to the All-Star Game 24 times and I showed up 24 times." He also said that they should still go for the fans.

But I do still believe Jeter and Rivera should have still showed up to the ASG. A lot of pitchers who weren't gonna pitch still showed up.

All in all, Jeter should have still showed up because he was barely injured. it doesn't take a friken genus to figure out why everyone is mad at him for wimping out. the all-star game is supposed to be about the fans. they voted him in even tho he hasn't had that great of year. all he had to do was show up and let the fans know he appreciated them. you can't get mad at the fans in general, people are stupid, you can't say the "fans" had no class because of what happns to Fielder, why would u generalize that to the whole fan-base? it really is not worth bringing up that little incident to compare it to what idiot jeter wimped out on. what an idiot. just because a few people are stupid does not mean that 40k are.

Also, Jeter got paid his 100k for not showing up to the game, at least donate that to charity or something.

and how the heck are you going to say that they are going to the hall of fame and then say they did the right thing by not appearing to tip their cap? what an idiot. how is that the right thing? that is why nobody likes the yankees, no freakin class at all. man, got to be the most stupid question ever on here. people really piss me off with their lack of common sense.

Is there any cool star trek games where you have a free walk around the starship enterprise?

I'm looking for a good star trek game where you control the starship enterprise but not from an outside view like the majority I've seen. Im not keen on the ones where you view the game from above the ship or arcade style. Is there any cool star trek games where you have a free walk around the starship enterprise?nope sorry I wanted to do that for years now too! besides i dont think there would be too much to see anyway. there have been 7 starships with the name Enterprise. which one are you most curious about?

How is uranium created? Only the elements up to iron can be fused inside a star?

I though only the elements before iron could fuse inside a star... how exactly is uranium, which is a natural metal, created if not inside a star?

And a question about uranium dating... if the metal decays over a period of 4-5 billion years, then shouldn't there not be any unstable uranium on earth? Wouldn't it all have decayed and formed lead? How is uranium created? Only the elements up to iron can be fused inside a star? For the first part, I don't see why stars would be forced to stop at iron.

For the second part, most of the earths heavy metals were left here by other objects colliding with us in space after the planet was formed. How is uranium created? Only the elements up to iron can be fused inside a star?
Uranium-uranium dating is a radiometric dating technique utilizing the comparison of two isotopes of uranium (U) in a sample: 234U and 238U. 234U/238U dating is one of several radiometric dating techniques exploiting the uranium radioactive decay series, in which 238U undergoes 14 alpha and beta decay events while decaying to the stable isotope 206Pb. Other dating techniques using this decay series include uranium-thorium (using 230Th/238U) and uranium-lead dating.

238U, with a half-life of about 4.5 billion years, decays to 234U through emission of an alpha particle to an isotope of thorium (234Th), which is comparatively unstable with a half-life of just 24 days. 234Th then decays through beta particle emission to an isotope of protactinium, 234Pa. 234Pa decays with a half-life of 6.7 hours, again through emission of a beta particle, to 234U. This isotope has a half-life of about 245,000 years. The next decay product, 230Th, has a half-life of about 75,000 years and is used for the related 230Th/238U technique. Although analytically simpler than 230Th/238U dating, in practice 234U/238U dating is almost never used as unlike 230Th/238U dating it requires prior knowledge of the 234U/238U ratio at the time the material under study was formed. For those materials (principally marine carbonates) for which the initial ratio is known, 230Th/238U remains a superior technique. This restricts the application of 234U/238U to extremely rare cases where the initial 234U/238U is well-constrained and the sample is also beyond the ca. 450,000 year upper limit of the 230Th/238U technique.

How is uranium created? Only the elements up to iron can be fused inside a star?%26gt;How is uranium created? Only the elements up to iron can be fused inside a star?

Wrong. Only the elements up to iron can be fused with a net production of energy. Higher elements can be formed, they just require more energy than they produce in doing so. Very heavy elements (heavier than iron) were mostly produced in supernovas, where the extreme energy levels produced by the fusion of lighter elements also allowed for heavier elements to fuse in the same explosions.

%26gt;if the metal decays over a period of 4-5 billion years, then shouldn't there not be any unstable uranium on earth?

Elements do not decay over a specific time period, they decay according to a half-life. For example, uranium-238 has a half-life of about 4.5 billion years. That does NOT mean that it decays in precisely 4.5 billion years, all it means is that on average, half of a given quantity of it will have decayed by the time 4.5 billion years are up. Since the Universe is only 13.7 billion years old, we divide 13.7 by 4.5 and get 3.044, 0.5^3.044=0.1212, so if a quantity of uranium with n atoms had existed at the beginning of the Universe, approximately 12.12% would remain today, and in another 4.5 billion years, approximately 6.06% would remain, and so on. Since the Earth happens to be roughly 4.5 billion years old, about half of all the U-238 present on the Earth when it first formed has now decayed into lighter isotopes, because 4.5 billion years is roughly the half-life of U-238. At this rate, halving the amount every 4.5 billion years, it would take a very, very long amount of time (many trillions of years) for the U-238 present on Earth when it formed to ALL decay.

Also, why is this question in the Religion category? How is uranium created? Only the elements up to iron can be fused inside a star?
since everything is formed (according to astrophysics) from the dust of others stars, so is uranium and the heaviest of the elements. Only it is theorized that it would take a super massive star to create it in order to create the temps and pressures that smaller stars can not achieve. the material is cast out after their destruction and winds up in the formation of planetary bodies.

This theory has cast doubts in some scientific communities as to how our solar system was truly formed since they can not agree than the planets were formed from our own solar center because it is not capable of creating these elements. How is uranium created? Only the elements up to iron can be fused inside a star?Supernovas.

The half life of Uranium 238 is 4.47 Billion Years, so it can be used for radiometric dating from the beginning of the Earth.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uranium-lea…
The trans-iron elements are formed during supernovae.

The half-life of uranium-238 is 4.47 billion years. This means if you started with 1000 grams of it, after 4.47 billion years, you'd have 500 grams of it left. This means that Earth still has approximately half of the U-238 it started with.

How is uranium created? Only the elements up to iron can be fused inside a star?
Shouldn't this question be asked in the science section?

Uranium are created by stars, All of the elements are created by/in stars. Uranium don't decay into lead.

Edit: By/In Stars - Either directly through normal fusion inside the star or by a star (Ie. Gravitational collapse)
Wrong-o: In a supernova the excess energy from positive binding curve reactions powers negative binding curve reactions. Kinda like that waterfall in Colorado where the water descends a great distance before it ascends a modest distance. What you should worry about is why there is no native plutonium. How is uranium created? Only the elements up to iron can be fused inside a star?
Uranium is mined and obtained from the earth... we don't make it.

If you know about intelligent design, please help:

Elements heavier than iron are made in supernovae.
Its half-life is 4-5 billion years. That means that after 4 billion years, half of it has decayed and half is left.
I don't know how it works, i only use it
A reall good discussion on this is in

Is the Bronze Star a commonly received medal in the armed forces?

I was going through some old boxes and came across my grandfather's war medals. He died before I was even born and I don't really know when he served, I think during the Korean War. But one of his medals was the bronze star and I wondering if it is a commonly received award. Is the Bronze Star a commonly received medal in the armed forces? The bronze star is received for two reasons..

    1. meritorious service during combat (not peacetime or in a non combat zone during wartime)

    2. For valor in combat

The bronze start for meritorious service is not uncommon,...especially if the person was an officer or NCO. For valor it is pretty rare.

If the ribbon portion has a small "V" attached to it it was for valor. If not it wasn't (or the V got lost somewhere. Is the Bronze Star a commonly received medal in the armed forces? No it is not common.

They are awarded now, more than they used to.

There are two separate bronze star medals ( actually same medal, just one has gold V device attached )

The bronze star with V device ( for valor ) is the 4th highest award for valor.

The bronze star without the V device, is awarded for meritorious service in combat. Is the Bronze Star a commonly received medal in the armed forces?no

Observations to decide the primary source of energy of a star is hydrogen or helium?

What observations could you make of a star to determine whether its primary source of energy is hydrogen or helium? Observations to decide the primary source of energy of a star is hydrogen or helium? The evidence that the Sun burns hydrogen is indirect.

Fusion of hydrogen is the only reaction we know that can provide the energy produced (which we can see and measure) over timescales consistent with the age of the oldest rocks on Earth.

Any chemical reaction (imagine the Sun made of coal for instance), would consume the Sun in a mere 200,000 years or so.

The last twenty years we have also found direct evidence in the form of neutrinos, particles that are produced in those fusion reactions and that escape the Sun more or less unharmed, and are detected on Earth.

Why don't astronomers study the 3 star system made famous by the Barney and Betty Hill case?

It was a famous UFO abduction in 1961 which remains unsolved. When Betty asked the beings where they were from, they showed her a 3-D map of a three star system (called "Rygel" or something). 15 years later, astronomers were baffled when they were able to confirm Betty's claim before the technology even existed! The star system is estimated to be 39 light years away, which puts it in our galaxy. Why aren't astronomers studying this star system more and trying to make contact? Why don't astronomers study the 3 star system made famous by the Barney and Betty Hill case? The star "identified" in the star map is Zeta Reticuli, a G2 star 39 light years away (so, yes in our galaxy - along with 100 billion other stars in our galaxy).

The stars, designated Zeta1 Reticuli and Zeta2 Reticuli, are both yellow dwarf (main sequence) stars similar to our Sun. No close-in giant planets have been detected around either of the components, making Earth-like terrestrial planets possible. However, the stars are only 60% as enriched with metals as the Sun. Small, terrestrial planets are much less likely to form around less metal-rich stars - metals (meaning elements heavier than hydrogen and helium) are needed to form rocky planets (such as the Earth).

Betty Hill drew a map she claimed she was shown during the abduction, showing the aliens' home star, the sun, and 14 other stars.

UFO researcher Marjorie Fish constructed a 3-dimensional map of nearby sun-like stars and claimed a good match from the perspective of Zeta Reticuli. The fit of the star map was debated in the December 1974 edition of Astronomy Magazine, and astronomer Carl Sagan debunked the map, noting that the match was not (and could not be expected to be) perfect - random chance would produce at least one similarly good match to the map somewhere in the star catalog Fish used in her analysis.

So since there is no objective proof that there are planets or alien intelligent life around that star, there is no reason to focus more observations or attention on Zeta Reticuli than on any other star system. Why don't astronomers study the 3 star system made famous by the Barney and Betty Hill case? The facts are not quite as simple or exact as you stated. One interpretation of the crude map they drew from memory while under hypnosis seems to indicate the Zeta Reticuli star system is the alien's home. Other interpretations of the same map point to other stars. All stars that are likely to harbor life, including Zeta Reticuli, have been and are being studied by astronomers. Why don't astronomers study the 3 star system made famous by the Barney and Betty Hill case?If it's 39 light years away, they could have seen it with a small telescope. And Rigel is one of the brightest stars in the sky. We knew about it long before 1961.

Can 8th grade star testing effect my college acceptances?

I'm going into 9th grade in a few weeks and i have just received my STAR testing results. I didn't do bad but I didn't do well either. I am planning to major in Science and English. During my middle school years, I was selected into an advanced math class where i skipped a level of math. For English and Science, I have received both advanced scores. For History and Geometry, I had received only proficient scores. If i were planning in enrolling in an ivy league, am I screwed? Can 8th grade star testing effect my college acceptances? No, colleges don't see any of these scores. Nor do they see the PSAT/NMSQT (Practice SAT/National Merit Scholar Qualifying Test) that you'll probably take early high school, or any state-administered mandatory tests. All they ask for is the SAT Reasoning test (normal SATs), the SAT Subject tests (optional, but if you're applying to the Ivies or other first tier schools, you should definitely take at least two, in the subjects you're strongest in), and the ACT if you take it (more popular among non-New England schools, so the Ivies generally prefer the SATs.)

If you're planning on trying for an Ivy, look at this as a learning experience. Look at the subjects you didn't do well in, and make sure you pay extra attention to improving in those areas. Because while this one test may not have any bearing on your acceptance, if you're only receiving proficient scores in class instead of advanced scores (aka, A's), that will.

As a side piece of advice: Take the PSAT twice. It only counts for the Merit Scholar competition your junior year, and most people only take it then, then their SATs senior year, but if you're smart enough to be shooting for Ivy's, you're smart enough to be shooting for National Merit Scholars, as well. So take it sophomore year (if your school lets you, mine restricted which sophomores were allowed to take it) so you'll do better as a junior when it counts. Similarly, take your first SAT as a junior instead of as a senior, as long as you feel prepared. That way, if you're not satisfied with your scores, you have more time to improve instead of rushing to take it twice as a senior. Can 8th grade star testing effect my college acceptances?
Well honestly, my high school did send some general middle school grades and club activities as part of my transcript. Honestly though, don't panic. High school matters a million times more. They may see that you skipped a level in math and were simply challenged more with geometry, which is why you only did proficient. Grades are important, but also showing that you really *challenged* yourself academically (as well as doing other things like clubs, school activities, sports, etc) mean a great deal. Can 8th grade star testing effect my college acceptances?Snow, really put a lot of thought into what was written by the female-avatar-represented responders, those with no avatar representation of their physical being who did not make references to grammar or style in composition, and those who did not present short-sighted limitations in the relationships among future levels of educational development and your current situation.

Keep looking ahead and don't be afraid of minor stumbles along the way.Can 8th grade star testing effect my college acceptances?
Nope. Colleges only look at highschool scores. When they start scouting you they look at PSAT (Try taking it this year as a freshman). many colleges look at middle school like the warm up, so they dont even bother unless your going up in a branch school. *schools that from K-12 groom you for a specific college* Besides that your fine becuase as you said you wanted to major in english and math were you got good scores. Can 8th grade star testing effect my college acceptances?Yes , but not in a direct way you probably hear that they only look at your high school which is true , but middle school can affect your high school which in thus affect college

So say you do bad in middle school you won't be able to take AP and Honor classes you which thus affects your college

    You understand what I'm saying?

    Anyway good luck
your transcript from highschool are the only ones that really count toward gpa for college. so far from what you said, you got a great chance, you got advanced scores in what you are appling for, you doing great, good luck with your school and study hard. Can 8th grade star testing effect my college acceptances?
Snow, you'll do just fine. Don't worry, you've always been a very intelligent young lady. Plus you have enough scholarships to go where you please and I hope you do choose an Ivy League. BTW congrats.

    Hannah's Aunt ;o]
Not at all. Colleges are not looking at test scores from middle school. They are mainly concerned with your high school grades/GPA and your SAT and/or ACT score. Can 8th grade star testing effect my college acceptances?
I doubt it, although I'd recommend learning the difference between "effect" and "affect" before applying to college.
Nope. Colleges don't even look at your PSAT, which you'll take later.

SAT, SAT II, and/or ACT are the three that ivy leagues care about.
No, but your grammar can. 8th grade STAR tests don't affect your chances of getting into certain colleges.

The people who watch you audition are like the producers of Disney or Nick. What would a star look like if you were traveling towards it moving faster than light?

We can pretend the star is Sirius. What would a star look like if you were traveling towards it moving faster than light? It would look like a starWhat would a star look like if you were traveling towards it moving faster than light?
%26gt;What would a star look like if you were traveling towards it moving faster than light?

You can't move faster than light. Reaching the speed of light in the first place requires infinite energy and distorts space and time to zero. You can't move towards something at the speed of light, because by the time you've reached the speed of light, you are already AT the object you were traveling towards, which in turn would already have passed through eternity and long since decayed into residual energy spread across infinite space.

It has been proposed for there to be particles called 'tachyons' which always move faster than light. The existence of tachyons violates none of the rules of relativity. However, not only would tachyons act as if they were traveling backwards in time, it is not clear how we could ever interact with them, much less convert tardyons to tachyons and vice versa.

%26gt;Or we can say what would be the difference in perception if you were moving at 10% the speed of light then started moving 99% the speed of light.

Several things happen for an object moving close to the speed of light. People outside see the object as becoming shorter from front to back, gaining mass, and experiencing time more slowly. The object itself sees the rest of the Universe as being compressed in its own direction of travel, and experiencing time more slowly. One effect would be that light from objects ahead of you would be blueshifted and that from objects behind you redshifted. That doesn't necessarily mean that they will visibly change color significantly, but they will change in visible brightness, and a spectrographic device could measure the shift in emission/absorption lines. Also, although an object directly ahead of you would stay directly ahead and an object directly behind would stay directly behind, other objects would appear to be distorted and shifted towards a ring surrounding you and oriented perpendicular to your direction of travel. And of course, your journey would appear to take a shorter amount of time than someone outside would perceive it. This last effect is actually fairly important, since it implies that even very long journeys could theoretically be made within a human lifetime, provided you had a sufficiently effective spaceship drive. What would a star look like if you were traveling towards it moving faster than light? If you were traveling at exactly the speed of light (I know, but let's just play along), then you would perceive the time, from "here" (wherever that is) to "there" to be exactly zero. Since the speed of light is finite from any frame of reference, then the distance (speed * time) from "here" to "there", for you, would be exactly zero.

Our brains work at a rate of (at best) 20 Hz, that means that at least 1/20 of a second must elapse before your brain has any idea of any change. But, 1/20 of a second after pressing the magic button, you have (obviously) already passed the distance of zero, separating you from any object we know.

Imagine if you were traveling even faster than this speed allowing you to be anywhere in zero seconds...What would a star look like if you were traveling towards it moving faster than light?
Think it might depend on the distance you were from it but I think it would just be the same as if you were traveling at it slower. It would just be getting bigger faster as you would be moving toward it faster.

I have to wonder about Einsteins theory on this. Light travels as photons. We are not photons so if we were to travel faster then light would the time problem still exist.?What would a star look like if you were traveling towards it moving faster than light?Your question is moot. You cannot travel "faster than the speed of light"...too many paradoxes.

You only get interesting answers if you ask about SIGNIFICANT FRACTIONS of the speed of light...not AT or faster than the speed of light.

    ----------------

OK, now that you ask more educatedly ... did you know there is something called the Doppler effect? In astronomy, often called red shift and blue shift?

And the Doppler effect is true for all wave types.

When a light source approaches an observer, its light is blue shifted, since its frequency is increased by observing waves faster than otherwise would if the source were stationary.

The opposite happens when a light source recedes from an observer, and the light is redshifted.

Crunching the numbers, Sirius's peak frequency is in the ultraviolet, at about 1 Petahertz.

If you peceive Sirius approaching you, this peak frequency will be blue shifted. For Sirius, and that speed value you gave me, that would result in 20 Exahertz, which is in the X-ray spectrum. This could eventually be quite dangerous if it becomes bright enough.

The only portion of Sirius's black body spectrum you could then see would be its low frequency end, and very dim...because you are likely only seeing about 1% of its emission as visible...compared to the 30% which you ordinarily see.
As I have traveled many time though the universe looking at stars and other worlds, I can tell you that the STAR would look like a Star traveling toward you at faster than the speed of light.

For your information it is impossible to travel faster that the speed of light. What would a star look like if you were traveling towards it moving faster than light?
It would look like a little point of light until you got really, really close to it. It wouldn't matter how fast you're moving. But you can't move faster than light in a vacuum; as you approach the speed of light, time stops for you.
If you were traveling faster than c relative to Sirius, then Special Relativity would be falsified, and without a valid theory of motion, we would have no theoretical basis to tell you what it would look like. What would a star look like if you were traveling towards it moving faster than light?
If you wanna go faster than the speed of light, you need to create a ripple in the fabric of space-time. This could cause you to go backwards in time. But the star would appear as normal
    Really flaming bright.

I have to calculate the water requirement for a 5 star resort and a 5 star hotel with swimming pools, so i have to calculate daily water requirement for the same. What is the water circulation time for a Swimming Pool in a 5 star resort plus hotel ?There are billions of answers for that question. Give some specifics and MAYBE you will get some type of definate answer.

#1) What type of swimming pool? (What size)

#2) what model of cleaning system are they using? There are thousands out there and some clean faster than others. Also, if it's old it could clean much much slower due to the pump not circulating the water as fast.

So to answer your question, there is no exact answer to that question. If that's all you were given to go with, tell your teacher it's impossible to answer it without more information.

I had a star named after me when i was little and i was wondering if there was a way to find that star. I know its coordinates, if that helps. How do you find a specific star in the sky?Get a telescope and point it at the co-ordinates.

However from my experience of these charlatans the star will be so tiny that it will need a HUGE telescope to see it.

The scope might cost many thousands of pounds/dollarsHow do you find a specific star in the sky?You learn as many stars as you can. Then you star hop to find the others, using binocs or a telescope, a star atlas, and a star catalog. You use the coordinates (right ascension and declination) to find the star in the atlas. You star hop to find it in the sky, after finding it in the atlas first. How do you find a specific star in the sky?all you need is to share your name if possible to know which star are you referring to..

secondly, you can find the star by simply turning the telescope into it because you have said that you know the coordinates but if you don't know the coordinates of whic it refers to, you can look at the book of astronomical measurements. How do you find a specific star in the sky?

What are your thoughts on TNA wanting to bring ROH star Delirious into the company?

    source: http://www.wrestlingepicenter.com

According to sources within TNA, the company has either reached out to or is planning to reach out to Ring of Honor star Delirious. TNA is said to be very interested in bringing Delirious into the company right now. What are your thoughts on TNA wanting to bring ROH star Delirious into the company?Looking at it from a fan's perspective, this would be an awesome career move for Delirious.

Delirious is a one-of-a-kind performer, there isn't anybody else like him in pro wrestling anywhere. He is an excellent in-ring performer, great mat wrestler, great high-flyer, and as daring as anybody. He's ridiculously fun to watch.

The gimmick is what separates him from everybody else. It's not just the gibberish promos, it's the way he delivers them and the way it fits his gimmick. It's as if he's from another planet and thoroughly understands the wrestling game but can't speak our language. Don't be mistaken, though; he's not being pushed as a "Martian" but that's how he comes across. An "alien" who understands us but is incapable of speaking our language (he understands it, though).

ROH fans "get it" and they love Delirious. I think most TNA fans would "get it", too. Vince (if he even allowed Delirious to use that gimmick, which is highly unlikely {to quote Gorilla Monsoon}) would market him toward the very young fans (as he did The Boogeyman) and wouldn't push him as a serious contender for anything. Hogan and Bischoff, I think, would use Delirious' popularity to push him with the same gimmick, i.e. Delirious already has a built-in fan base, why start over?

Purely as a fan, I'd love to see Delirious on a bigger stage (TNA) on a channel that millions of people can watch. He's a very unique performer and he's gotten over with a cartoon gimmick and made it work very well. More people should get the chance to see this charismatic one-of-kind performer. ROH would lose one of it's most popular performers but it would be a great career-move for Delirious. What are your thoughts on TNA wanting to bring ROH star Delirious into the company?
I like it but at the same time I don't..since ROH is my favorite wrestling company.

But it would be a good move by TNA to bring him in, his character is very entertaining..and his promos are simply the best.

    BAHBAHBAHBAHABAH!!

    You can't beat that...lol.

But it brings an entertaining wrestler into TNA, I just hope they don't butcher his stay there if he does join TNA, and give him a horrible run in the company. He could do well in the X-division though..so that's a plus. Good move by them, but a loss for ROH.

To anyone that thinks TNA just brings in WWE old stars, TNA just goes out and gets the best available wrestler if they get the chance, no matter where they're from.

TNA has lots of former ROH wrestlers, like Homicide, Samoa Joe, AJ Styles has wrestled there, Alex Shelley of the new TNA tag team champs the Motor City MachineGuns has been in ROH, Desmond Wolfe...there have been a whole lot of ROH wrestlers go through TNA.

TNA just picks up wrestlers they like, whether it's former WWE, ROH wrestlers or wrestlers from another Indy company. What are your thoughts on TNA wanting to bring ROH star Delirious into the company? He's OK but why not bring in someone with more potential to be a future star, like Kenny King or Eddie Edwards? What are your thoughts on TNA wanting to bring ROH star Delirious into the company?
    I think its a go!!

I'd like to see more indie wrestlers in TNA thats what stands TNA out from WWE. There's alot of talent in ROH.. Davey Richards I would like to see signed to TNA or WWE..What are your thoughts on TNA wanting to bring ROH star Delirious into the company? They need to he is a good young wrestler from the Indies, TNA needs more guys like him.
They want delirious, No love for A DoubleWhat are your thoughts on TNA wanting to bring ROH star Delirious into the company?
he will be an awesome addition to the tna roster
cant wait for his debutWhat are your thoughts on TNA wanting to bring ROH star Delirious into the company?
    - Finally there trying to look for other Talent besides taking all of WWE's Former Superstars -

What is the science of the Vulcan grip from the Star Trek television series ?

I want to know is the Vulcan grip that is presented in many episodes of Star Trek is caused by the applied pressure to the arteries and muscles of the neck. On another subject, which writer helps to add the idea of the grip to the show? What is the science of the Vulcan grip from the Star Trek television series ?ooopsWhat is the science of the Vulcan grip from the Star Trek television series ?Despite being purely fantasy, there is some science to the grip:

1: If you can close off an artery that leads to the brain, the victim will go unconscious. The real-world wrestling move "The Sleeper" does just that - it pinches closed the main artery running up the side of your neck, into your brain. However it takes a couple of minutes for unconsciousness to occur.

2: The Eastern concept of pressure points. Eastern medicine is based the idea that stimulating certain points on the body where nerves intersect will have certain affects. Many marital arts rely on pressure points to prevent an attacker from being able to move his arm, for instance. However the idea that there's a universal pressure point on all humanoid species somewhere near the shoulder that causes instantaneous unconsciousness is just fantasy. (For one thing, there's no such thing that'll even work on humans...)

As for how the writers came up with it, they didn't. Originally there was an episode where the script called for Spock to sneak up behind an enemy guard and whack him in the back of the head with the butt of his phaser. Leonard Nimoy didn't think Spock, being (part) Vulcan would be so primitive and suggested a sort of martial arts-y thing, which eventually led to the creation of the Vulcan grip familiar to all Star Trek fans today. What is the science of the Vulcan grip from the Star Trek television series ?It's the Vulcan Neck Pinch. There is an attempt to answer that here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vulcan_neck鈥?/a>

I think that it's just a sensitive area, so people generally accept that it would really hurt to be pinched there, so it works as a fictional device.

Are there any Wii games that function similar to Phantasy Star Online for the gamecube?

For all of you who have played Phantasy Star Online for the gamecube: are there any Wii games out now or going to come out that function similar to PSO. This meaning that four different people can play with four different characters on four different consoles, and then get together and all play multiplayer together, and then go back and play on their own different consoles?

Also, does anyone know if that is even possible on the Wii?

Thank you.Are there any Wii games that function similar to Phantasy Star Online for the gamecube?I don't see why it wouldn't be possible with the same save structure that PSO used, if the game reads straight from the SD card (treating the SD card like slot 2 on the cube and using the internal memory as slot 1). Reading from the SD card is done in Brawl, so it is possible. I just don't know of any game similar to PSO for using characters from multiple systems. Are there any Wii games that function similar to Phantasy Star Online for the gamecube?I dont think thats possible, but go to wikipedia and check out the games coming for the wii later this year

What would be the heaviest element we could expect a star the Sun's mass to make in its lifetime?

Is our Sun's ability to fuse elements into heavier ones (once it gains the ability to fuse helium) limited by its mass? What I mean is, would our Sun be hindered by its comparatively small mass in terms of the heaviest element it can fuse before it runs out of enough energy, or is iron usually the limit as a rule of thumb? Perhaps I'm also wrong with the iron limit, but I've always heard that a star's lifetime basically ends when its core becomes iron and it subsequently implodes. What would be the heaviest element we could expect a star the Sun's mass to make in its lifetime? The Sun does not have enough mass to go beyond oxygen and carbon production. There may be a few trace elements larger due to quantum cirumstances. It will not reach the iron stage.

http://demonstrations.wolfram.com/RedGia鈥?/a>What would be the heaviest element we could expect a star the Sun's mass to make in its lifetime?
George is right, although small amounts of other elements up to 26Al (which decays to 26Mg) are also formed.

It is true that elements up to around mass number 56 can be formed with release of energy, but our Sun isn't big enough to ever get hot enough to overcome the electrostatic nuclear repulsions necessary for the "silicon burning" that occurs leading to this in more massive stars. What would be the heaviest element we could expect a star the Sun's mass to make in its lifetime?I'm not 100% sure but i think Iron is indeed the heaviest element that our sun will make, at the end of its life cycle. And yes, it is limited by its mass, the heavier/larger the star is, the heavier elements it will manage to produce (i think oxygen along with nickel are the heavier ones (pardon me if I'm wrong, i really have to brush up on this))What would be the heaviest element we could expect a star the Sun's mass to make in its lifetime?
Iron is the expected end result. The sun doesn't have the mass to go beyond that point. What would be the heaviest element we could expect a star the Sun's mass to make in its lifetime?Iron is the end of the road for massive stars, although the probably do produce some nickel 56, but that decays pretty rapidly into iron 56.

"... Iron ( /藞a瑟.蓹rn/ or /藞a瑟蓹rn/) is a chemical element with the symbol Fe (Latin: ferrum) and atomic number 26. It is a metal in the first transition series. It is the most common element in the whole planet Earth, forming much of Earth's core, and it is the fourth most common element in the Earth's crust. It is produced in abundance as a result of fusion in high-mass stars, where the production of nickel-56 (which decays to iron) is the last nuclear fusion reaction that is exothermic, becoming the last element to be produced before collapse of a supernova leads to events that scatter the precursor radionuclides of iron into space.

Like other Group 8 elements, iron exists in a wide range of oxidation states, 鈭? to + 6, although +2 and +3 are the most common. Elemental iron occurs in meteoroids and other low oxygen environments, but is reactive to oxygen and water. Fresh iron surfaces appear lustrous silvery-gray, but oxidize in normal air to give iron oxides, also known as rust. Unlike many other metals which form passivating oxide layers, iron oxides occupy more volume than iron metal, and thus iron oxides flake off and expose fresh surfaces for corrosion. ..."

The sun, as said by some one else, doesn't have enough mass to produce anything heavier than carbon, and it's already producing some of that through the CNO cycle that uses the helium nuclei produced by the proton-proton-process that is creating the helium in the sun.

"...The CNO cycle (for carbon-nitrogen-oxygen), or sometimes Bethe-Weizs盲cker-cycle, is one of two sets of fusion reactions by which stars convert hydrogen to helium, the other being the proton-proton chain. Theoretical models show that the CNO cycle is the dominant source of energy in stars more massive than about 1.3 times the mass of the sun. The proton-proton chain is more important in stars the mass of the sun or less. This difference stems from temperature dependency differences between the two reactions; pp-chain reactions start occurring at temperatures around 4脳106 K, making it the dominant force in smaller stars. The CNO chain starts occurring at approximately 13脳106 K[citation needed], but its energy output rises much faster with increasing temperatures. At approximately 17脳106 K, the CNO cycle starts becoming the dominant source of energy.[1] The Sun has a core temperature of around 15.7脳106 K and only 1.7% of 4He nuclei being produced in the Sun are born in the CNO cycle. The CNO process was independently proposed by Carl von Weizs盲cker[2] and Hans Bethe[3] in 1938 and 1939, respectively.

In the CNO cycle, four protons fuse, using carbon, nitrogen and oxygen isotopes as a catalyst, to produce one alpha particle, two positrons and two electron neutrinos. The positrons will almost instantly annihilate with electrons, releasing energy in the form of gamma rays. The neutrinos escape from the star carrying away some energy. The carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen isotopes are in effect one nucleus that goes through a number of transformations in an endless loop. ..."

What is the star constellation Orions mythological history?

Im doing a star project and I need a little background on orion and how he came to be. Thanks. What is the star constellation Orions mythological history? It is not very surprising to see such a prominent constellation to have more than one version of a story surrounding it in Greek mythology.

In one version, Artemis, the goddess of hunt and the moon fell in love with him and stopped doing her job of illuminating the sky at night. Her twin brother Apollo, seeing Orion swimming on the sea, dared his sister to strike what only appeared to be a spot on the waves. Not knowing it was Orion, Artemis shot an arrow and killed him. Later, when she found out what she did, she placed his body among the stars. The grief she felt explains why the moon looks so sad at night.

It may be that the naming of the constellation precedes the mythology in this case. It has been suggested that Orion is named from the Akkadian Uru-anna, the light of heaven, the name then passing into Greek mythology. As such, the myth surrounding Orion may derive simply from the relative positions of the constellations around it in the sky.

In some depictions, Orion appears to be composed of three bodies, having three arms [1], two divergent legs, and a small central one, as well as the three bodies being bound at the waist. As such, together with other features of the area in the Zodiac sign of Gemini (i.e. the Milky Way, the deserted area now considered as the constellations Camelopardalis and Lynx, and the constellations Gemini, Auriga, and Canis Major), this may be the origin of the myth of the cattle of Geryon, which forms one of The Twelve Labours of Herakles.

In Finnish mythology the constellation of Orion is called the scythe of V盲in盲m枚inen. The term most likely comes from the fact it can be seen in the sky in early autumn, the time of haymaking...What is the star constellation Orions mythological history?..i pretty much know that its the biggest constellation in the night sky. and i'm not even sure if that's correct.

Why did the Star Trek Ships on the shows and Movies have navigation lights and Logo lights?

Wondering why all the ships on all the Star Trek shows and even Deep Space Nine station have Navigation lights? There in space and have view screens so why have Navigation lights. Was this to make the ships easier for the viewer to see or a logical reason for the lights? Why did the Star Trek Ships on the shows and Movies have navigation lights and Logo lights? So you can see the ships.

Space is dark. Very dark. Unless your close to a star, there is no light.

In the dark, it's very easy to hit another ship, or even land at sea.....the same is true in space.

The view screen just shows a 'virtual picture' of what the sensors detect.

    And lights look nice.

Ships need lights for shuttles and other EVA craft. You don't want people hitting the ship.

Take DS9. When a ship comes in to dock, people want to see the station, not just a 'black patch' of space. And you don't want people hitting the station.

The lights also allow you to read the stuff on the ship, like the ships name. Or the air lock number. Or 'danger antimatter exhaust'.Why did the Star Trek Ships on the shows and Movies have navigation lights and Logo lights? They viewed their 'driving' through the view screens. The view screens provide a view to the outside of the ship and if there were no lights it would be completely dark and they wouldn't be able to see to navigate. Most of the time they are on automatic but a few times SULU had to actually steer the Enterprise and it would've been impossible without the Navigation lights. Logos have always had lights shine on them. The 23rd Century will be no different logos will still provide the first point of recognition for any product or service; as it does now. The real question is 'Why have they never shown a McDonald's or a Coke? lol' You KNOW they gonna have a Big Mac, Coke %26amp; Fries in the 23rd Century and I'm sure Deep Space Nine has a McDonald's. Wal-mart does! LOL!Why did the Star Trek Ships on the shows and Movies have navigation lights and Logo lights? The two reasons that come to mind are nautical tradition and more importantly, dramatic license. Why did the Star Trek Ships on the shows and Movies have navigation lights and Logo lights?
I have to concur with Hayden. It certainly does give it a more dramatic appearance.

How come there are not many star status white american NBA players?

How come there are not many "star status" white american NBA players out there yet there are many star status white players from all around the globe what's the reason for this? How come there are not many star status white american NBA players?I think that white American athletes are usually pushed towards a different sport, like baseball and football. How come there are not many star status white american NBA players?
There aren't as many young White American Athletes who see the NBA as a means of success that minorities do. Therefore, many of the the young White men who posses athletic skill don't always pursue a career in sport, and even when they do because they haven't put the same priority on it that minority athletes have their skills are not as developed as early. What ends up happening because of this is coaches see manny of their minority athletes as more talented and focus more on them in an effort to develop them and win HS and College Championships. The few white athletes who do make it into the pros now days most are seen as "Diamonds in the Rough" or "Project" Players that a coach can take on to help develop their skill sets. If the young man hasn't picked up to many bad habits along the way you end up with something like BRAD MILLER, who was undrafted, but over the past 11 seasons has developed into one of the best TRUE Centers in the league. He is great in the low post and can actually shoot a long ball. How come there are not many star status white american NBA players?Cus ****** be bettah athletes then whities.

They are also completely retarded compared to whites. How come there are not many star status white american NBA players?

I need the actual paper.Where can i find a copy of the the indianapolis star from aug 10th ?If you can't find what your looking for, you may be able to go online and order a print version that could be mailed to your home. Just a thought. http://www.indystar.com/Where can i find a copy of the the indianapolis star from aug 10th ?If you are in Indianapolis, or pretty much anywhere in Indiana, you can get a copy of the Star at the public library. Outside of Indiana, the main library of many big cities will have copies.

Of course, if you need to keep the copy, a library won't help. In that case, you can call the Indianapolis Star directly. The toll-free number for Subscriber Services is 888-357-STAR (7827), or, locally, it's 317-444-4000.Where can i find a copy of the the indianapolis star from aug 10th ?I bought a couple of extra copies from August 10th's paper for the free Indiana State Fair tickets. Not sure which date you want, you put August 10th in the heading, but the 11th in the body of the text. Depending on how fast you need it, I could send you one.
