Its a bright orange star in the sky its like 3 times larger than a normal star in the sky. Could it possibly be Venus? Im in Southern California im not sure how far it can be seen from. What is that bright orange star in the sky?Larger? Perhaps glare with the atmosphere is making it appear that way, but it's probably Mars that you're seeing. Is it north of Orion? That's where Mars is, currently.
Is it in the east right now? That would be Saturn.
If it's the NW corner of Orion, that's Betelgeuse. If it's NE of the constellation Orion, then that's Aldebaran (the eye of Taurus the bull)
I use Orion as a reference because it's one of the most easily recognized constellations in the sky - a rectangle, with a diagonal line of 3 bright stars roughly at the center, on an angle. Orion should be high in the S-SW sky right about now.
Check some sky maps online, such as http://www.fourmilab.ch/yoursky/
It's not Venus because Venus is always close to the Sun in the sky, so it's only up for a while in the east before dawn, or in the west after sunset. Venus is bright and appears whitish. What is that bright orange star in the sky?

This is great freeware you can download. Just tell it where you are and it will tell you what you see. It will show you Mars and anything else that you have questions about. I use it a lot. Enjoy. What is that bright orange star in the sky?

I'm in southern New Mexico which is about the same latitude as Southern California and it does sound like you're describing Mars. It has been quite bright this year. I believe it's because that planet's about the closest to earth it has been in years.
