Today in Bible class, we learned that the Jewish Star of David was actually created from 2 triangles. One upside down triangle, and one upside right triangle. The upside down triangle represents a man and the upside right triangle represents a woman. In order to form the Star of David, these triangles are placed on top of one another; signifying a man on top of a woman-- sex. My question is why does the Holy Star of David represent this(sex) and why do the Jewish people use this as the symbol of their religion? What is the mystery for the reason behind the Jewish Star of David?LOL! I think you fell asleep through some of the lecture. I did find a reference for male/female, but it is for a different religion. Look at this page under the section "Usage by Hinduism and Eastern Religions". Its talking about the Hindu religious symbol, definitely not Judaism!

Here is the answer to where the star came from regarding its use as a Jewish symbol:

The triangle facing up depicts the kingdom of heaven and the other facing down is the kingdom of earth. Both kingdoms are under God.What is the mystery for the reason behind the Jewish Star of David?Hi Katie, the Star of David is a relatively new symbol for Jewry dating in the late 1800s. The mystery of triangles will bring all kinds of answers due to the nature of their geometry but does represent the 12 tribes of Israel, Almighty God above and His presence below and to some Christians the Trinity both above and below.

The Magen David has been found in jewish synagogues dating back to the 3rd century. it is not a recent symbol but an ancient one.
your teacher is wrong about it representing male/female in Judaism. I Judaism there are a number of meanings attached to it. Two common ones are:
1) the six outer points reperesent the days of the week encompassing the core of Shabbos. The holiness of Shabbos thus permeates the entire week- each day receiving its share as represented by the fact it goes out from Shabbos.
2) The triangle pointing upwards reporesents our reaching for G-d. it represents our attempts to achieve righteousness, but as we are flawed, we only achieve a small amount of what we try- thus the large base to the small. However, as G-d represents love and wishes to reward us, he sends many blessings down to us though we are unable to preceive everything he does for us (thus it goes from big to small)
