What year did the media pressure Vince Carter to give up his spot on the all-star team so MJ could play?

Was that the 2002 or 2003 all star game. This was the one that MJ was NOT voted to play in by the fans. The Jordan Jocking media pressured Vince Carter (the one the fans DID want to see) into giving up his starting spot.

Does anybody know what year that was? I can't seem to remember. What year did the media pressure Vince Carter to give up his spot on the all-star team so MJ could play?Pigs must be flying and hell has frozen over , because I "somewhat" agree with Alpha Wolf and King. That was a bullsh!t moment in All-Star history... I clearly remember Vince not wanting to give up his spot and the getting pressure from the NBA afficinados, media and endorsers to give up his spot.

From SI.com:

While Iverson and McGrady would like to step aside, Vince Carter -- voted in as a starter even though knee problems have limited him to 15 games -- won't. He said he wouldn't give up his starting spot because he would be letting down the fans who voted for him.

Magic was different. He actually had the second most votes to Clyde Drexler in the West, but was retired.

Fans voted Johnson into the starting lineup for the West.

Tim Hardaway had the second most votes among active players in the west and got the starting nod.

But... Hardaway like Carter didn't initially want to give up his spot. And Magic, much like Jordan didn't ask to be starters. Magic was "given" a 13th spot on the team.

So, regardless the NBA's thumbprints are all over both All-Star games. What year did the media pressure Vince Carter to give up his spot on the all-star team so MJ could play?
Ok? I do know that one year T Mac was healthy and he himself decided to let Jordan play? GF bandwagoner. What year did the media pressure Vince Carter to give up his spot on the all-star team so MJ could play?Vince Carter wanted to do it in 2003. He admires MJ as much as any current NBA player, and tried to follow in his footsteps. It wasnt media pressure, it was Vince Carter trying to give a little something back to the man who has given it all for the NBA.What year did the media pressure Vince Carter to give up his spot on the all-star team so MJ could play?
He did not give up his spot he played in the All-star game as a reserve. He gave up his starting spot for MJ, which was the east he can do cause MJ is the GOAT of all SG's of the past, present, and future. I am a Knicks fan and hated MJ for as long as he played, but there is no denying his greatness. What year did the media pressure Vince Carter to give up his spot on the all-star team so MJ could play?Anthony M ...comprehend much?..."KING" never said he gave up his "spot"...he said Vince gave up his "starting spot"....

and Vince did'nt want to do it.....but Nike was trying to sell the new Air Jordans ......it was all about OVERHYPING MJ in order to make $$$...

I repeat..The FANS DID'NT vote MJ as an allstar...either did the coaches......it was all media hype. Who cares what MJ did in the watered down 90's?.....he did'nt deserve to be an allstar...if you ignore that then your ignoring FACTS!

Hey Corey - the FANZ VOTED for Magic......big difference!..

Fanz VOTE FOR YOU = Magic

NO ONE Votes for you = Jordan
That's why the allstar game is overrated. Selections are popularity contests and should never be used for judging someones career on greatness. What year did the media pressure Vince Carter to give up his spot on the all-star team so MJ could play?
2003
I think you know what year it was. Iverson and McGrady had offered Jordan their spot, but he turned them down. I agree that Carter shouldn't have been pressured to give up his spot. It put him in a difficult position.

Carter was one of the top vote getters that year, despite the fact he only played in a handful of games by the time the votes were counted. If somebody was going to step aside, he was the logical choice. It's the least he could do for his fellow UNC Alum.

If you are going to call out MJ, you should also mention Tim Hardaway giving his spot up for Magic Johnson in 1992.What year did the media pressure Vince Carter to give up his spot on the all-star team so MJ could play?
YOUR MOM SUCKS!!!
