Why did the Jews choose the star of David to represent Israel and it's religion?

The Star of David is a symbol of King David's shield, is this not the shield that defended him at war? I agree that he was a remarkable individual, but why didn't the Jews use a Symbol that represents it's origin, or something to do with Moses and receiving the ten commandments? Why did the Jews choose the star of David to represent Israel and it's religion? It has a supernatural origin. It was the Shield of David and the Seal of Solomon.

It consists of two triangles (three sides representing God's Triune nature), one pointing upward to heaven and the other pointig downward to Earth.

Deu 4:39 Know therefore this day, and consider [it] in thine heart, that the LORD he [is] God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: [there is] none else.

Deu 10:14 Behold, the heaven and the heaven of heavens [is] the LORD'S thy God, the earth [also], with all that therein [is].

Jos 2:11 And as soon as we had heard [these things], our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the LORD your God, he [is] God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.

1Ki 8:23 And he said, LORD God of Israel, [there is] no God like thee, in heaven above, or on earth beneath, who keepest covenant and mercy with thy servants that walk before thee with all their heart:

Rev 22:16 I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, [and] the bright and morning star. Why did the Jews choose the star of David to represent Israel and it's religion?
The Magen David is just *one* symbol of Judaism, and many Jews don't even use it.

Other symbols include: The menorah (modeled after the candelabrum in the Temple), lions of Judah flanking the tablets of the Law, a "chai" symbol (representing life), etc.

EDIT: Um...there is no "triune nature" of God in Judaism (Hear O Israel, the L-rd is your G-d, the L-rd is ONE), so that answer is utter nonsense. Why did the Jews choose the star of David to represent Israel and it's religion?Look at what Israel means to Jews.

When Israel was created, protection was very much on every one's mind, so a shield was appropriate. And the Davidic kingdom has always been the paradigm of israel as an independent country.

We've never lost Judaism as a religion, so religious symbols don't capture the significance of Israel - a modern state with borders open to take us in when the next crisis comes. Why did the Jews choose the star of David to represent Israel and it's religion?
If anything is to be the symbol of Judaism, it should be the Menorah. I'm not really sure why the Star of David was chosen. Could have something to do with the fact that the Nazis forced all Jews to wear yellow Stars of Davids on their clothes. Why did the Jews choose the star of David to represent Israel and it's religion?Jesus was referred to in scripture as the son of David or the seed of David. Why? Because his mother Mary, was in the geneology of David.

"For our God, Jesus Christ, was, according to the appointment of God, conceived in the womb by Mary, of the seed of David, but by the Holy Ghost ...Why did the Jews choose the star of David to represent Israel and it's religion?
