5 All-star games
10 all-star games
50% of a players career
60% of a players career
what would be a good standard. you don't have to choose from what i wrote. How many all-star games does a player need to play in to be considered a Hall of Famer?Given the current voting system I do not believe All-Star Game appearances should be considered to determine HOF candidates. It's not uncommon for deserving players to be left off the team, either because of fan voting or the rule that requires at least one player from each MLB team make their respective squad.
The accepted benchmarks for HOF consideration include 3,000 hits, 500 home runs, 300 wins, or 3,000 strikeouts. Achieving one of those marks virtually guarantees admission.
So consider the player who plays 20 years and averages 25 home runs per season. 25 is a fairly ordinary home run total in todays' game so that player may never come close to being considered for an All-Star appearance.
The All-Star Game rewards a player for current performance while the Hall of Fame recognizes a players' career achievements. They're two totally different honors. How many all-star games does a player need to play in to be considered a Hall of Famer?
If I'm not mistaken, players are elected to the Hall of Fame. It's not all about their statistics. How many all-star games does a player need to play in to be considered a Hall of Famer?Interesting question. In general, I must say, that I could technically see a guy being very solid for a long time, say fifteen years or so, only make it to a All Star Game or two and still be in the Hall. I'm sure there are players that have done this.
However, as a general rule, I would say if a player makes it to 5 ASGs that's pretty good. 10 or more is amazing and almost certainly a lock in my book! How many all-star games does a player need to play in to be considered a Hall of Famer?
They need Zero to get elected,
but generally speaking because HOFers are the best players out there, they will participate in many All Star games. To get into the HOF you need to have a long prosperous career so I am guessing, even though all star games are not required to get into the hall of fame, most HOFers play in at least 6-8.How many all-star games does a player need to play in to be considered a Hall of Famer?Honestly, the way baseball's rules are with regards to the All Star game, it shouldn't be used as a measure of "greatness" by itself. While All Star appearances can and should be used to bolster someone's case, no number of All Star appearances can make someone a Hall of Famer by themselves. They have to be taken into consideration the whole of the player's career.
The main reason is the fact that a player can make the All Star team for half their career simply by being the player that sucks the least on a bad team, since the rules require that someone from each team be represented.
The other reason is that, despite the fact that the fans get it right most of the time, 18 spots on the All Star Team are determined by a popular vote, and many people simply vote for the players on their home team.
How about zero. Popularity contest. How many all-star games does a player need to play in to be considered a Hall of Famer?
ill say at least 10, that's shows a consistent productive career.....
if we w2ere using the criteria for getting on the allstar team of 20 yrs. ago or more, it might be a consideration, but as popularity with fans as a means, to get in the asg, it seems that isn't a fair thermometer of a players ability, which is used for hof selection, i also think all star selection should go back to managers and coaches, onegliitch in the now system and relates to your treatise was back a few years ago la dodgers SS Cesar isturis was picked by fans over sf SS vizcaino, even though izturis had a poorer fielding percentage, and batting average, popularity contest hands down for players from larger population centers, Omar will go to the hof on his defense and offense stats while izturis is fadingHow many all-star games does a player need to play in to be considered a Hall of Famer?
All-Star games should not be considered as a gauge for HOF voting consideration. I mean, what were the considerations/qualifications back when there was no All-Star games?
I rest my case.
you dont have to make the allstar team to make the hall upto a few years ago they didn't even keep records of the as game.other than who played .
If you are going to use number of All-Star games as a criterion to show why someone should be in the HOF, you should have two different numbers, because it's a lot harder for pitchers to get elected to an All-Star game.
Position players: 10 AS games
Pitchers: 7 AS games
Now don't get me wrong, many Hall of Famers won't play in that many AS games, but it's rare you'll find players that play in that many games that won't make the Hall.
Being an All Star and making the Hall of Fame are independent of each other. There are some players that made a lot of All Star teams (Bill Freehan made 11 and Ron Santo made 9) that aren't in the Hall of Fame. Then there are others (Don Sutton - 4, Fergie Jenkins - 3) that didn't make a lot of All Star teams but are in the Hall of Fame.
For the most part I would think 5 All Star games would mean you're a pretty good player.
If a player is elected to the HOF it's based on his regular season stats %26amp; I am sure that if they made the HOF they definitely played in some all star games during their careers but I don't think a certain number of all star appearances have nothing to to with a player get elected to the HOF
