How Earth would be affected if a very luminous star like Pistol Star existed within 5-10 lightyears radius?

or R136a1, Cygnus OB2-12, the most luminous stars known. What would be the effects on Earth concerning temperature and the star's observed luminosity from Earth? How Earth would be affected if a very luminous star like Pistol Star existed within 5-10 lightyears radius? If my rudimentary math and collected data from wikipedia are correct, it would seem that the Pistol Star is so bright and powerful that at ten light years distance from us, it would still be brighter than our Sun. It also fluctuates a lot, and frequently emits incredibly strong bursts of radiation and stellar material. We'd probably be baked first, then batted around in the intense bursts of radiation. Also, it's probably got a short life span, and when it goes supernova or hypernova we'll probably be within the blast radius. If the Earth isn't shattered, it may find a new home around some other star as it is launched away from the Sun.

Just speculation, but you can be sure it would be pretty dramatic. How Earth would be affected if a very luminous star like Pistol Star existed within 5-10 lightyears radius?Considering that Pistol Star's distance from us is 25,000 light years and it's luminosity is 1000000 times that of the Sun's, I'd say if it were within 5-10 light years from us, then it'd be 1000000 brighter than the Sun. We'd be dead. Of course, that statistic doesn't seem right. I wouldn't trust anything that pops out of my head. How Earth would be affected if a very luminous star like Pistol Star existed within 5-10 lightyears radius?Well, at 5 to 10 light years away, they'd easily be the brightest stars in the sky (probably visible by daylight), but as far raising the Earth's temperature, I don't *think* there'd be much effect. (As the moon is also very bright, but has very little effect on temperature and weather.)

I would bet that animals that are night-dwellers or night-hunters would adjust to new patterns of behavior when the night-side of Earth were facing these stars.
